Dayton Coffee Shop, located at 280 2nd Avenue in the heart of Downtown Dayton—one block from the Historic Courthouse and surrounded by lots of small shops—stands as a slice of Southern culture and hospitality where tradition thrives. This IS a Coffee Shop in the old usage, where folks stop in to have a cup of coffee and shoot the breeze, though it's also a full-blown restaurant that's been around longer than ALL of the chain and independent coffee shops redefining modern expectations. Before it was Dayton Coffee Shop it was The Daytona or some similar name, way back. The establishment remains successful as evidenced by packed houses from lunchtime crowds, and they don't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. For those expecting cookie-cutter experiences, think "Local Diner" instead. Good ole country restaurant. This wonderful hidden gem delivers southern comfort food at its best—the kind that makes customers feel like they've eaten at mama's house. Home cooked food. Fresh food. The best Mexican cornbread and chicken fried chicken anywhere, period. Pot roast, pork chops, and chicken livers to die for. Great chicken fingers, hamburger steak, even their hamburger and fries prove good. Delicious cornbread partners with the best sweet tea in Rhea County by long shot. Definitely try the blackberry cobbler with ice cream!
